My overall goal of teaching in sociology is to inspire students with curiosity about, and active engagement in the world we live in. I recognize that students will pursue diverse career paths, from academia and policymaking to roles in healthcare, sports, the arts, finance, and management. I hope to prepare our students to become the most passionate, compassionate, and competent citizens, researchers and leaders in Canada and internationally. Through sociological education, my goal is not only to train future sociology professionals but also to develop well-rounded individuals who can navigate the complexities of society with wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to social justice. This vision can be achieved through critical reflections and actions to foster a more empowering learning experience, particularly for students from diverse or marginalized backgrounds, by centering on a transformative, inquiry-based approach.
I am currently teaching Introductory Sociology, Cultural Sociology, and Sociology of Emotions at SMU. I used to teach Sociology of Technology at the University of Toronto.
